La Cage aux Folles

A Musical Comedy

Jerry Herman’s glittering show tunes overflow in the outrageous tale of a family of cabaret performers led by partners Georges and Albin. When their son brings home his fiancée and the future in-laws, the limits of love, parenthood and mascara are put to the test. Tender romance and wild laughter are center stage as the Riviera’s most delicious drag nightclub bursts to life in its Goodspeed debut. Expect “The Best of Times” from the Tony Award-winning composer of Hello, Dolly! and Mame.

Cagelles enjoy 'best of times' in Goodspeed's la cage aux folles
For two of the dancers in the Goodspeed Musicals’ current production of “La Cage aux Folles,” these are indeed “the best of times,” as one of the production’s songs indicates, as they are experiencing the thrill of being in a production at one of Connecticut’s most esteemed regional theaters but getting to perform—for the first time in their lives—in high heels, boas, and dresses. A fantastic performance performed with humor and heartfelt anxst. Jamison Stern, James Lloyd Reynolds and Cedric Leiba Jr were magical! Genuinely nice people too! Met up with them at the Gelston House after dinner and all, including director Rob Ruggiero were very gracious...and patient with our picture taking! Kudos to the entire cast!!!!

This play was by far the best that I have seen in a long time. I thought Showboat was terrific and Fiddler was up there also but this has surpassed both of them. I have been telling everyone I know that they should hurry up and get tickets before it ends. Looking forward to next years shows.

We attend all the productions. I can say this was by far our favorite of ten seasons! Jamison Stern as Zsa Zsa was perfection ...his interpretation was spot on..better than the three Broadway leads we had seen play the role before in NYC. The costumes, company, orchestra, everything was perfection....KUDOS!

The show is fantastic, he performances wonderful. But beware: the upstairs seats, sold as partial view, are NON-VIEW. Combined with tall people in front of us, it was as if we were listening to the show on the radio.

After seeing the original production with George Hearn and Gene Barry and the revival with Gary Beach on Broadway, Goodspeed scores a 10 for the their production of La Cage. Jamison Stern was magnificent in his portrayal of ZsaZsa and Albin. Vocally and emotionally stellar;never over the top and always believable in his characterizations. James Lloyd Reynolds was a perfect match for Albin. Their chemistry and emotion was seamless and not often achieved in many productions. The set and costumes were beautiful. I'm always baffled by the function, artistry, and sheer beauty of your sets on that tiny stage. Finally, hats off to the Cagelles. They looked great. They danced great. They sang great. They were the final piece of the puzzle in your fantastic show. i hope to see another before the end of the run. It's that good!

What an unbelievably good show for our first experience at Goodspeed. La Cage Aux Folles was full of great music, fabulous choreography, beautiful costumes ~ all the things that would make a cabaret grand. But, beyond all that, the performances were tremendous. Albin made me laugh and cry, and I literally got goosebumps from his rendition of I Am What I Am! So heartfelt, so perfect! I will definitely return to this theater if this is the caliber of performance I can expect! This show has been held over, and I strongly recommend getting your tickets today!!

Very well done. Going once a year for 24 years it was the best since Houdini and animal crackers. The lead knocked it out of the park. Good job all.

Bravissimo!!!! This was one of the most WONDERFUL performances I have ever been to at the theater (and that's saying a lot). Absolutely everything about the production was terrific. The sets, costumes, choreography were great but most important -- the performances were awesome. The story was funny, touching, meaningful, moved right along and everyone in the cast did their part perfectly. The two main characters were especially brilliant in their parts -- acting, singing, never overdone, never underdone, great chemistry together. The singing and presentation of "I Am What I Am" was the thrilling highlight of the day and brought tears of joy to all our eyes. This production (and we've seen many great ones at Goodspeed) is perfect -- kudos to all of you who are involved and so many thanks for a truly marvelous and memorable experience.
