Making Memories for 150 Years!
As we celebrate America 250 this summer, we also celebrate 150 years of the Goodspeed Opera House.
For generations, The Goodspeed Opera House has stood on the banks of the Connecticut River. Built in 1876 (87 years before Goodspeed Musicals was founded), the Goodspeed Opera House quickly became the center of everyday life in East Haddam. Its ground floor once housed a general store, meat market, and post office. While upstairs in the theatre, audiences gathered to enjoy performances brought in by steamship, live entertainment created by locals, and community celebrations.
For more than 63 years, Goodspeed Musicals has been dedicated to producing exceptional musical theatre while preserving our historic landmark. Season after season, we continue to champion creativity, build community, and honor the memories created by generations who came before us. None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of our steadfast supporters.
Make a donation today to support the preservation needs of our historic building, while honoring the integral part Goodspeed has played in America’s creative landscape.
Thank you for celebrating our treasured landmark and for standing with us as we look toward the next 150 years!
