Ever wonder what it would be like to be part of the rehearsal process for a Goodspeed show? Well, now's your chance! This tuition-based program will offer young professionals and students invaluable firsthand experience that can't be taught in a classroom. The Associate Program will allow talented young theatre artists to work alongside Goodspeed’s Director, Choreographer, or Music Director on a Goodspeed Opera House or Norma Terris production. Audition Intensive
Goodspeed’s Audition Intensive is a unique and comprehensive program offering invaluable training and insider tips for the aspiring Broadway star. This highly selective two-day program will prepare high school Juniors and Seniors for college musical theatre entrance auditions. Students will have the opportunity to work with Equity actors who have experience in New York, on national tours and at Goodspeed Musicals. They will provide individualized monologue and song coaching, facilitate group exercises, and lead discussions covering all aspects of the audition process. Students will also participate in mock auditions and a panel discussion, exposing them to industry professionals including Brent Wagner, Chair of the Musical Theatre Department at The University of Michigan; Michael O'Flaherty, Goodspeed’s Music Director; and Parker Esse, a renowned Choreographer. Introduction to Scenic Painting Intensive
The aesthetic beauty of our productions testifies to the fact that Goodspeed Musicals benefits from some of the most talented scenic painters in the country. During this six-day intensive introductory program, participants will receive expert instruction from a team of esteemed teaching artists, including current and former Goodspeed staff. Participants will learn to create textured surfaces using a variety of scenic painting techniques. They will also begin to master scenic painting skills such as cartooning, color mixing, squaring up, drop layout, and wood graining. For more information, please visit the program's web page.
Music Direction Intensive
During Winter 2010, Goodspeed Musicals demonstrated its leadership and continued innovation in musical theatre education by offering the first Music Direction Intensive in the world. This highly selective program will continue to provide a limited number of individuals with practical training in all aspects of Music Direction on an annual basis. The seven day intensive offers participants the opportunity to work with internationally renowned experts in music direction while networking with industry professionals. Participants use the latest technology to receive hands on training in the management and implementation of the audition, rehearsal and orchestration process. Participants also attend nightly lectures given by industry experts on pertinent subjects relating to real world success in the field of Music Direction. Musical Theatre Dance Intensive
Calling all up-and-coming hoofers! This program is designed as a musical theatre dance boot camp for college age performers and young professionals. The distinguished faculty will cover numerous disciplines of dance with a musical theatre focus. Our campus will be filled with young people learning to build their Broadway-style repertoire with instruction in tap, jazz, ballet, and hip-hop for the musical stage. Professional Development Series
New for the 2011-2012 school year, Goodspeed Musicals is offering Continuing Education Units to arts educators who attend our new professional development series. The Max Showalter Center for Education in Musical Theatre at Goodspeed Musicals has organized a 3-day event dedicated to arts teachers in Connecticut that will include a ticket to see City of Angels. The seminars will be held on the beautiful Goodspeed campus and each will address the challenges that arise in directing high school musicals.
