A Letter from Michael Gennaro
Over the past five years of leading this incredible organization, I have grown to love this iconic building and the many people who work here, visit here, and attend our shows. Each of you is important to Goodspeed and it is with mixed emotions that I share some personal news with you.
With the arrival of a new granddaughter into our family I have paused to realize that there has come a time in my life when I am ready to leave behind the day-to-day world of arts management and shift my priorities to family, friends and other interests. Therefore, in December of this year I will be stepping down as Executive Director and retiring. I truly believe it was destiny that Goodspeed Musicals would be the last stop on my theatrical journey.
2020 marks almost five decades of my career in the theatre as an actor, producer, entertainment attorney, and arts manager. As you may know, I grew up in a family immersed in musical theatre and never imagined that more than 30 years of my life would include running six arts organizations in six states. Those organizations have included a world class ballet company, a National Medal of Arts winning theatre, one of the last true repertory companies in the country, and now a theatre that represents the pinnacle of the American musical theatre art form.
I want to thank you for your generous support of the theatre and for the confidence you have expressed in my leadership of this iconic institution. The organization’s musical footprint has continued to expand and evolve during my tenure at Goodspeed, and I am confident that there will be great moments of achievement and celebration in years to come. Our Board of Trustees will conduct a national search for new leadership for our beloved theatre, and we’ll inform you as soon as a selection is made.
I will be here for the rest of this year and look forward to seeing you at one of our many events or performances. It is sure to be an exciting season filled with great theatrical moments in each and every production at The Goodspeed and at The Terris Theatre.
With sincere appreciation,
